Western Academic Workers United has set a strike deadline of Wednesday, May 28. If Western Washington University istration does not meet the union’s demands, including bargaining rights, the student union’s operational student employees will begin picketing that morning.

It was less than five years ago that Western Washington University had an active chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), which boasts over 92,000 in chapters throughout all 50 states, according to the Democratic Socialists of America website. At the beginning of 2021 though, the campus chapter abruptly ceased activity.

Last month, the Western Washington University women’s club baseball team traveled down to Sonoma, California, to defend their Baseball For All Women's Club Baseball Championship title. Western Washington University men’s basketball junior guard Tijan Saine made his long-awaited transfer decision after entering the transfer portal in March. After meeting and talking with many schools that recruited him, Saine chose to attend NCAA Division I Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, this fall.
