Military veterans and others in the Mountain Home area plan to honor the memory of those who gave their lives in defense of this nation during a Memorial Day service that begins at 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery. 5w402v

Marking its 157th anniversary in communities across the United States, the observance traces its origins to the days following the Civil War when Southerners marked the graves of those who died fighting for the Confederacy.

Scheduled to begin June 2, this year marks the first time the city police department will take part in this state-level event in which law enforcement from communities across Idaho as well as Special Olympic athletes plan to carry these “flames of hope” throughout the state.
