Snowline explores recreation options with a ‘Fitness Court’ at Serrano for Community Use.
By Vicky Rinek

Snowline is exploring a National Fitness opportunity to unite our communities through a facility that offers community access to a Fitness Court. This initiative, viewed as a public-private investment, is a beacon of hope in the fight against obesity and the challenges of sedentary lifestyles. By providing access to Healthy Infrastructure, we aim to counter the rise of physical inactivity and make world-class fitness accessible to all, free of charge.
The project, funded through grants, emphasizes accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring everyone in the community can participate.
Dr. Holman’s mission is to provide a location for a healthy community and bring the world’s best outdoor gym—The Fitness Court®—within a few-minute ride of every in the Tri-Community.
Dr. Holman describes this system as the world’s best outdoor gym. Designed for the neighborhood, it will improve the health and fitness of students, staff, and the community. The Fitness Court is a comprehensive fitness solution, offering various exercises catering to different fitness levels and goals. It is designed to be -friendly and accessible, promoting a fun and practical workout experience. We are committed to your health and happiness.
“We are deeply committed to exploring this program,”  said Dr. Holman. “While the grant does not cover the full amount, we are actively considering how we can engage our community in this endeavor. We believe that this is a decision we should make together.”
A grant would partially cover the estimated cost, between $150,000 and $200,000. However, this cost would not be covered under the Measure J Bond, ensuring complete transparency about the project’s financial implications. We want you to be fully informed about how your community’s resources are used.
Rancho Cucamonga has two facilities, one at Milliken and another at Central Park, right up the Pacific Electric Trail. Victorville also has a Fitness Park. There are 400 of these parks nationwide.
The location proposal is at Serrano High School. Another site for consideration would be Heritage.
The Board raised a few concerns. The campus is now locked after school. Where would the equipment be to allow public access? What would be the liability if someone got hurt?
Dr. Holman saw a need to open the campus after school to its neighborhood and provide a connection with everyone.

Snowline updates on the Facilities

Superintendent Ryan Holman gave the Board an update on the progress of the Measure J Bond, results, and data. Joy Cummer, Bond consultant, will share February’s data. Snowline’s bonds will be $7.6 million, a significant investment that will be crucial in implementing the planned facility improvements.
Since their last meeting, Snowline Board Christina Behringer and Ryan Holman have conducted facility walks at Serrano HS (Modernization and Culinary Arts and Septic), Pinon Hills ES, Baldy Mesa ES, Quail Valley  MS, and the M&P Purchasing /Reprographics (Nutrition Services Storage). These walks were aimed at assessing the current state of the facilities and identifying areas for improvement. The architect engineers were there, and they probed the septic systems and climbed the roof to look at the HVAC systems in the portable classrooms and the portables that will be refurbished. They traveled through the campuses for ADA improvements. They were very responsive to Snowline’s objectives, looking at the plans and offering several suggestions and solutions to expand the capacity and use the facilities best. Holman indicated that they were very committed to ensuring that Snowline meets their goals, which are aligned with their facility priorities, as determined by the survey that was done prior.
“Along with those lines, we visited the Chef Max CTE restaurant program, and the 11th-grade instructor, Katie, took us on a tour of the refrigerators and freezers. They’re going to revamp the whole section. Said Holman, “It’s going to be wonderful if the building capacity is larger and a larger number of students can work.”  Currently, there is only a single roof vent, and it is limited to the student station. So, this classroom will be completely redone.
“The tour was very informative and very productive, and I am so excited to break ground and get going on this.”  Said Holman, “This just reinforces, I think, the message right here is these facility walks making slight modifications within the guidelines right of an already approved plan. We can only do so very much but making sure we’re getting anything and everything in service of the best outcomes, as well as expanding our reach in those areas.”
