Across the country, communities gathered to fallen veterans at churches, cemeteries and other public spaces.
About 30 veterans and volunteers helped raise 100 flags at the Flags of Honor Memorial in Willmar Friday morning to begin the Memorial Day weekend. A ceremony featuring a firing squad and buglers will take place at the memorial site on Monday, May 26, at 9 a.m.
Museums and historical societies are hosting special events in the next month. Some museums have changed their hours for the summer season.

The Chippewa County Historical Society welcomes Montevideo native and well-known artist and writer Art Norby for a weekend of tours, talks and classes June 7-8 in Montevideo.
