The registration window for the Lumveleni Pre-season Soccer Tournament opened on Monday. Unlike last year, when 16 teams from around Vhembe took part, the number of participating teams is expected to double this year.

This weekend marks the start of the Sasol Women’s League programme for the 2025/26 soccer season. Six matches will be played on Saturday afternoon, with the remaining two scheduled for Sunday.

The families of two children who vanished without a trace more than three years ago in the Vhembe District say they have lost faith in the South African Police Service (SAPS). They claim that because they are among the “poorest of the poor,” the cases have not been properly investigated.

The Minister of Police (defendant) has lost yet another legal battle, once again on the grounds of unlawful arrest. In its judgment, the court was highly critical of the arresting officer’s actions – or complete lack thereof. Fortunately for the plaintiff, the dashcam footage he captured proved to be his saving grace – evidence that the police had chosen to ignore completely.

Community in Thohoyandou have raised serious concerns about police inaction in handling crimes such as murder, corruption, theft, and house robberies. The complaints came during the “Case Closed Campaign” hosted at Healing Ministry Church in Makwarela Extension 3 on 16 May.
